A violent F-3 tornado rips through Downtown Nashville at approximately 3:30pm. David Hall is on-the-air high atop the L&C Tower. As he sees it approach the building, he exits through the studio door. The change in the room's pressure implodes all of the glass windows and sliding doors that surround the studio causing massive damage to the equipment and studio. A steel microphone boom stand is sliced in half by a section of glass. Staffers are required to go to the internal L&C stairwells to wait out the storm as the building sways from side-to-side!
WRLT holds a "Live In It and Win It" contest at Cool Springs Galleria, where the last contestant left living in the car would win it. After 32 days, a winner was chosen. The contest received a ton of local press and media coverage.
GM David Tune decides he's had enough as "Interim" GM (since May 1996!), and President Lester Turner ups Fred Buc to General Manager.
